With Marvel diving into Afrofuturism, it seemed like it was only a matter of time before they pulled a track off of Vince Staples’ electric heavy Big Fish Theory.

Black Panther follows the story of Chadwick Boseman’s character T’Challa, known as Black Panther, hot off the events of Captain America: Civil War. Following his father’s death, who was king of the fictional African nation Wakanda, T’Challa must return to Wakanda and claim his spot on the throne. The result is a gorgeous looking Afrofuturism film with big budget CGI and spectacular action.

What is really special about this film is that we are getting a live action take of the not-so-well-known genre that is Afrofuturism, which is a cultural aesthetic that uses science fiction, magic realism and other elements to critique present-day dilemmas of black people. (Wikipedia) This gives us the cool style featured in the trailer, which is awesome science fiction technology infused with African heritage. With all the issues of diversity in the film industry it’s refreshing to see a movie that is almost a fully black cast.

The only thing to look forward to more than the movie is the soundtrack, which is almost guaranteed to be the most fire hip-hop mixtape in recent years.

Black Panther hits theaters February 16, 2018, but until then get your face melted off with this pretty trailer.
