I drink vodka and wine, sometimes in the same glass. I like grabbing a drink after work, I prefer that over grocery shopping or doing laundry any day. Being young and relatively irresponsible with my money, happy hour and cheap drinks are life. These are my favorite spots to grab a drink when I’ve just paid rent and don’t get paid for two more weeks.

Fun & Games at The Boobie Trap
Fun & Games at Boobie Trap

Boobie Trap – 308 Bleeker St Bushwick (corner of Bleeker & Irving)

Regardless of whether or not it’s happy hour, I love this place! The “this is who we are, if you don’t like it, you can GTFO” attitude is what drew me in the first time. The games, drink specials and people are what keep me coming back. Seriously, this bar taught me how to stack chairs.  Boobie Trap does happy hour Monday – Friday noon – 8pm with $4 wells, drafts and wine. They don’t serve food but run across the street to their sister bar, Pizza Party for coal oven pizza!

Sea Wolf

Oysters at Sea Wolf

Sea Wolf – 19 Wyckoff Ave Bushwick (corner of Wyckoff and Troutman)

After being told over and over to check this place out because “$1 oyster happy hour” I gave in (I also found out they have a lobster corn dog which is delicious). Oysters aren’t really my thing but I was informed I had to try them and was pleasantly surprised. Happy hour Monday – Friday 4pm-7pm, $5 drink specials, $1 oysters and $1 wings, like a whole wing, those things are HUGE!  Sea Wolf is welcoming, a great place to have a drinks/food and conversation with friends. Plus, they have outdoor seating and DJ’s on the weekend.

Pine Box Rock Shop – 12 Grattan St East Williamsburg (just off the Morgan L)

A vegan-friendly bar, Pine Box Rock Shop only carries products containing no animal products. They have a vegan shop-up the second (or sometimes third) Saturday of every month. Karaoke with Kings of Karaoke Tuesday nights at 10pm, stop by Wednesday for comedy open mic at 6pm and trivia at 8:30pm. Happy hour Monday – Friday 4pm-8pm with $4 cocktails and $4 drafts, chill vibe, ticket stubs in the bar and make sure you checkout the bathroom décor.

Jimmy’s Corner – 140 W 44th St Time Square (between 6th and 7th)

I believe Jimmy’s Corner is Manhattan’s best treasure! The owner Jimmy Glenn has pictures and boxing memorabilia posted up all over the bar from his days as an amateur boxer and boxing trainer. The drinks are good, cheap and it’s just a good dive bar vibe. Where else can you get 3 or so drinks in Manhattan, especially so close to Time Square, without going broke?
